From the Zen state of “enlightenment through the bottom of a bucket falling out” to the silence of an autumn field, he used the moon as a mirror to reflect the human interior. Known for his “bloody prints,” Yoshitoshi also possessed a profoundly poetic lyricism. He looked deeper than anoyone else into the boundary where reality and fantasy interweave.
