Gakutei

The miniaturist who printed for connoisseurs, not crowds.
Gakutei's world was the surimono — small, privately
commissioned prints exchanged among poets and patrons rather than sold on the street — where he pursued a
precision of embossing and metallic pigment that few contemporaries could match. Trained in the same circle as
Hokusai's own students, he brought a jeweler's patience to paper. His illustrated books and kyōka verse collections
speak to an art made for the few who would notice every detail.
